Day 168

Kissing camels

There is nothing quite as wonderful as the chance to spend some time with a family and learn about the real life in a country. Staying with Sergio and his children had been a fantastic experience and we were very sad to leave, but our 90 days are almost up and home is calling.

On Sergio's advice we had changed our route, and were heading along by the Ebro, so we would have a second chance to view the waterfalls. We had been told by the owner of the bar we visited last night that the flood of water would have eased, and though still dramatic, he was right. We were so glad not to have missed them last night. We stayed close to the river for about 25 miles, then headed away and up into the hills. Our last mountain pass in Spain! Eight steady miles, the sun came out, we took our gloves off for the first time since riding with Stephane. As we neared the top we were rewarded with a view ofsnow-capped mountains all around. We just stopped and breathed in the crisp clear air and said our thanks to Spain. Yes we have a few more days riding to reach Santander but the hills and hard work are over, and this just felt the perfect spot to take a moment to reflex on our awesome adventure in Spain. What a wonderful country. What fantastic people.
