Day 1,705
Thank you for coming along
It's been 1,705 since we threw our keys away. We posted them in our letterbox at Ridge Green, celebrated with many friends who had come to see us set off on this adventure and finally we rode away. It's been everything we hoped it would be. There have been some incredibly difficult challenges but we've come through them together, stronger than ever.
Over the last few months I have started to need more. It's not that I have lost my desire to cycle tour, I still think it is one of the best ways to explore a country, and still love it. I simply want more, I want to spend time in my own home, not moving on everyday. I need to re-learn how to be still, l I need to cuddle my Great Niece who was born just days ago, and help her parents. Spend time with my family, my friends. I miss my beautiful part of the UK, Yorkshire. Breathing in the air and the views there is food for my soul.
At Christmas we had a great day with Bella and Bastion, but spending time with them, seeing how much fun they were getting from their trip, made me aware that I wasn't enjoying the adventure as I used to. Maybe it was time to stop.
So at New Year I talked it through with Tom, though he knew already. I didn't need to say the actual words, I want to stop. I want to go home.
Now we are both aware it will not be easy. We thrive on the challenges this life has given us. So we've set ourselves a new challenge. We are planning to sell Ridge Green and buy another house, a doer-upper, otherwise known as a money pit! With a very, very, very big garden for Tom.
The journey is not quite over. We are still in Buenos Aires, we are due to fly to Madrid today, but staff are striking, but I expect we will get there in a day or so. Then we plan to cycle back home to Ridge Green and have a street party with our friends and neighbours who saw us off at the start.
I'll write more about how much the support from everyone who has followed our journey has meant to us. The friends we've made. For now, just thank you.
